After the turkey...

The quiet speaks loudly
now that guests have gone
The smell of turkey
though, is evident still.

Alone now, I sit with
my feet up and pain in my back.
It has been a good day
and I am thankful.

I play some old music
to drown out the silence.
From a playlist that I
dubbed "Old Faves".

Melancholy seeps into my soul
Nostalgia sits by my side.
I am tired and feeling old
I miss my family on holidays.

But how old is 'old music'? Baroque?

Ha! I'm not quite that old. More like from the Platters through Nora Jones.

To me, family is holiday. When they are absent it is just a day, like any other. I have not had a holiday without my children yet...but the time is soon approaching when I will also sit with nostalgia instead.

I wish our gathering was bigger, but it was good to break bread together..

I'm always kind of happy to get back home or have the guests leave. I enjoy the time together, but I like my peace and quiet!

Char, you paint it. It is all bustle and boisterousness to feet up and quiet. I see you there. Even alone, you are beautiful.
