The quiet speaks loudly
now that guests have gone
The smell of turkey
though, is evident still.
Alone now, I sit with
my feet up and pain in my back.
It has been a good day
and I am thankful.
I play some old music
to drown out the silence.
From a playlist that I
dubbed "Old Faves".
Melancholy seeps into my soul
Nostalgia sits by my side.
I am tired and feeling old
I miss my family on holidays.

But how old is 'old music'? Baroque?
Ha! I'm not quite that old. More like from the Platters through Nora Jones.
Char-that's my favorite part of it all. faves and feet up. I think it would be quite special to be missed by you. Lucky they. ~rick
To me, family is holiday. When they are absent it is just a day, like any other. I have not had a holiday without my children yet...but the time is soon approaching when I will also sit with nostalgia instead.
Rick~You silver tongued devil, you say the nicest things, thank you.
W&W~Yes it comes to all who have children. I only have one--but I'll be seeing her for Christmas!
I wish our gathering was bigger, but it was good to break bread together..
I'm always kind of happy to get back home or have the guests leave. I enjoy the time together, but I like my peace and quiet!
Buffalo~ I have one daughter and a 'grand yorkie', so its always a small group.
Beth~ I hear you...me, too!
Char, you paint it. It is all bustle and boisterousness to feet up and quiet. I see you there. Even alone, you are beautiful.
