Did you hear that?

If my mother knew I was telling everyone this story, she would be sooo pissed at me.  But I just can't help it.  (and its totally true).

My mother is getting really hard of hearing, but refuses to do anything about it.  Last week my twisted sister took her to family night at her church where they have dinner, entertainment and socialize for the evening.

One of the entertainment acts for the evening was a group of ten ladies 'signing' hymns.  Mom turns to Kathy and says VERY loudly "I CAN'T HEAR A WORD THEY'RE SAYING".  Of course the whole church heard this and couldn't resist laughing.
(Kathy was somewhere under the table).

Moms.....you gotta love 'em.

My mom is losing her hearing too and her favorite thing to do is to tell everyone that I just talk so soft. I guess it's her first means of denial. I try to remember to talk in a strong and more audible voice when near her, but not so loudly that she asks me (in a hurt tone) not to yell at her (which she's done before when I spoke a little too loudly). LOL, it's a learning process for all of us.

Oct~You're so right. Mother says she never hears what we say, she just smiles and acts like she does.

My Grandfather had a hearing aid and when wanted to hear you he'd turn it on but the rest of the time he kept it off. You could tell when it was turned off because he'd just smile and nod no matter what was going on LOL
My husband's hearing is getting worse and worse and the other day the kids were fighting, the dogs were barking and he said I'm getting a hearing aid and I'm keeping it turned off - just like your grandfather.

My dad is the same. He refuses to get a hearing aid. We have to yell when we speak, and he turns the TV up so loud, we will all soon be deaf!

San.Mamma~I know lots of people who do that and some that have them and won't wear them. Funny comment about your hubby.

Wine/Words~I hear ya (so to speak). It is difficult to sit in the same room when mother is watching tv.

Sis, Uncle Burl won 4K at the casino, bought himself hearing aids, I told Mom, she said "If I had to buy them with that kind of money, I will never have any" Like she would anyway.LOL

Going deaf runs in our family.. oldest story we tell, is when my Grandma Mieras went through Customs at the Canadian border. The guard asks her "Where were you born?" She answered "Just a little ham"... She had been instructed they would ask if she bought anything while in Canada- couldn't hear the question, but had her answer ready!

My Mom and I were just talking today about her and Dad getting hard of hearing. She actually admitted it!

As someone who is deaf this was priceless. I used to have a great grandmother on Ex husbands side that would turn off her hearing aids at family gatherings. When I asked her why, she said, "The fake sentiments are more amusing on mute." She had her own family pegged so well. Thankfully I divorced my ex and no longer have to deal with them. I did however adore this woman. (Hugs)Indigo

There is so much potential for fun with this situation. My dad was like that for years. He stood in the Walmart electronics aisle, blocking the little electric eye that would beep whenever someone entered or exited it, completely unable to hear it going BEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ... finally, one of the salesmen asked him to move.

I have been steadily losing my hearing for years. Once, when I had asked Bing to repeat something after the tenth or eleventh time, she rolled her eyes and muttered, "If you can't hear, don't listen."

Well, I somehow heard that.
And I laughed....which only annoyed her further.
